Councilman calls for halal menu at city schools

City Councilman Rafael Espinal (D-Brooklyn) announced Wednesday he wants to expand school lunch menus to include halal food options for Muslim students.

About 20% of city schoolchildren - 170,000 students - are Muslim and often go a full day without eating school lunch because of religious dietary restrictions, Espinal said. He said the proposal for universal free lunch, which was introduced by Public Advocate Letitia James earlier this month, should be inclusive of all students according to faith-based needs.

[A COMMENT] I don't believe these numbers one bit. NY officials said themselves that there is no way to determine these numbers. Also, before the recent PEW study which showed that there were 0.8% muzzlims in the US, CAIR kept claiming it was 5-6%, i.e. 7x more.

So one could assume that there's not 12% muzzlims in the schools, but rather 7x less, i.e. 1.5%. Also, there was an attempt recently by CAIR to introduce muslim holidays in Maryland schools (which failed); they also claimed that there is a large number of muslim students but then it turned out it was around only 1.2%.
