One dead, seven injured after massive Islamist march on Jakarta

A massive protest against alleged blasphemy by a Christian politician turned violent last night.

Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim country, is generally moderate and recognises six official state religions.

But a march on the capital by thousands of religious conservatives led to one person dying and seven being injured on the streets of the capital Jakarta.

The demonstrators want the city’s Christian governor Basuki Purnama to be arrested after he joked about people using a verse from the Quran to attack him. [Metro.co.uk] Read more
