Denmark poised to ban Islamic full-face veils

The Danish government is poised to become the next European country to introduce a ban on Islamic full-face coverings in public places.

The government said it planned to fine people who wore items including the burqa and the niqab which are worn by some Muslim women.

Under the proposals anyone found covering their face would be fined 1,000 kroner (£120), or up to 10,000 kroner (£1,200) if they are repeatedly caught.

“It is incompatible with the values of the Danish society or the respect for the community to keep the face hidden when meeting each other in the public space,” Justice Minister Justice Soren Pape Poulsen said.

.... France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and the German state of Bavaria have all implemented restrictions on Islamic full-face veils in public. [452 comments]

[TOP RATED COMMENT] Will we ever ban it here? Too scared of a backlash no doubt. Given it is the anniversary of the Suffragettes, one might ask how they would feel if they came back to see women in the UK covered from head to toe in a black sheet with a slit for the eyes, forced marriages (often to their own cousins and often resulting in serious abnormalities of their offspring), FGM, Sharia Law (where women are worth half a man), honour killings etc etc? Nothing to be proud of if we ignore this. Religion is NO excuse to keep women subjugated. Will we tackle this or just be accused of being you know what?

[ANOTHER] Has the Mooslum deathcult improved ANY nation it's infested, ever in history?

[ANOTHER] Nope. Every one has gone down the pan.

[ANOTHER] A small sliver of common-sense returns to Europe.

May it be only the first step.

[ANOTHER] There is absolutely no religious requirement for a Muslim woman to wear a full face covering, that is a cultural requirement.

Therefore when you live in a different culture you should attempt to fit in/integrate, and in this case it means not wearing a full face covering.

Well done Denmark.

[ANOTHER] The Burqa or Niqab are only slightly less indicative of abject submission, slavery and denial of freedom as chains and neck irons, and banning them makes sense - But as long as hate crime laws continue to proliferate in the West to restrict speech in order to protect the sensitivities of fundamentalist Muslims, they are just window dressing.

The real erosion of freedom is in the restrictions on speech that are clearly designed to protect Muhammed, Allah and Islam from the ridicule, satire and defamation that every other religion practiced in the West has been forced to tolerate.

[ANOTHER] Well, well, well...

I think the rest EU will follow.

[ANOTHER] I cannot even tell if the person in the photo is male or female.

[ANOTHER] The Danes are racists? Progressives putting their cultural foot down?

[ANOTHER] UK would never do that. Too eager to appease huge Muslim population.

[ANOTHER] This isn't an item of religious clothing and neither is it 'cultural'. When worn in Europe it's a political uniform, and it's sending a very unpleasant message indeed, THAT is why it should be banned. Until very recently the hijab was banned in Turkey because it was a symbol of political Islam, if they could see the danger why cannot our politicians see it?
